Agreement targets reduced fertilizer use, cost savings, and environmental impact.

MustGrow, a Canadian provider of sustainable crop inputs, has entered into a distribution agreement with U.S.-based Phospholutions to supply RhizoSorb, a phosphorus efficiency technology, to the Canadian market through MustGrow’s NexusBioAg unit.

The agreement expands access to RhizoSorb, a patented additive designed to improve the availability of phosphorus in soil, potentially allowing farmers to cut fertilizer use by up to 50% while maintaining crop yields. The product is intended for integration into dry-granule phosphate fertilizers and requires no change to application equipment or practices.

Phosphorus is the second-most-used nutrient in global crop production, yet a large portion of conventional phosphorus fertilizer remains unavailable to plants after application. Phospholutions and MustGrow say RhizoSorb addresses this issue through a controlled-release mechanism that reduces soil tie-up, leaching, and runoff.

“With approximately 94.5 million acres of Canadian farmland reliant on phosphate, this is a key market,” said Craig Dick, vice president of sales and marketing at Phospholutions. “We are pleased to partner with MustGrow to expand access to more efficient fertilizer technologies.”

Phospholutions estimates that RhizoSorb can reduce phosphorus runoff by 78%, leaching by 84%, and greenhouse gas emissions by 45% compared with conventional monoammonium phosphate (MAP) fertilizer. The company also projects savings of up to US$20 per acre from reduced input volumes and related logistics costs.

Colin Bletsky, chief operating officer at MustGrow, said the collaboration supports broader goals of sustainable agriculture. “Efficient and responsible nutrient use is a top priority for our business and the growers we serve,” he said.

The agreement follows MustGrow’s strategy of combining proprietary biocontrol technologies with third-party crop nutrition products under the NexusBioAg brand. Based in Saskatchewan, MustGrow develops biological inputs derived from mustard seed and holds a portfolio of over 100 issued and pending patents.

Phospholutions, headquartered in Pennsylvania, focuses on improving the sustainability of phosphorus use in agriculture. RhizoSorb is its flagship product.
