# Mosaic opens fertilizer plant in Northern Brazil to support growth strategy

Equipped with advanced blending systems and a direct rail link to the port of Itaqui, the facility aims to improve logistics and profitability, targeting margins of $30–$40 per tonne and an internal rate of return above 20%.

The Mosaic Company has inaugurated a new fertilizer blending, storage, and distribution facility in Palmeirante, Tocantins, Brazil, as part of its expansion in the MATOPIBA agricultural frontier. The $84 million project, completed on time and within budget, aims to enhance Mosaic’s reach in northern Brazil, a region of growing agricultural output.

The plant, which will be formally opened on July 16 during a ceremony led by Mosaic Executive Vice President Jenny Wang, has an annual processing capacity of one million tonnes, with 500,000 tonnes expected in 2025. The site features automated blending and bagging systems, large warehouse capacity, and a direct rail link to the port of Itaqui, which is expected to reduce logistics costs and improve delivery efficiency.

Mosaic projects that the Palmeirante facility will help increase its distribution sales in Brazil from under 8 million tonnes in 2024 to 13–14 million tonnes by 2030. The company expects the site to generate a margin of $30–$40 per tonne and deliver an internal rate of return above 20%.

“This new plant represents meaningful progress for Mosaic,” said Wang. “We are providing farmers in the MATOPIBA region with more efficient access to fertilizer, while reinforcing our commitment to strong capital execution and shareholder returns.”

Brazil remains a key market for Mosaic, which continues to focus on improving supply chain infrastructure to support its long-term growth in the region.
