Biome Makers has formed a strategic partnership with Midwest Laboratories, expanding access to its BeCrop Test, a DNA-sequencing-based soil analysis tool, for growers across the United States. The agreement integrates Biome Makers’ biological testing into Midwest Labs’ existing chemistry services, providing a more comprehensive view of soil health. The BeCrop Test uses next-generation sequencing and a proprietary database to deliver insights into microbial activity, nutrient availability, and disease risks—factors increasingly relevant as farmers aim to optimize inputs and improve long-term soil performance. “Partnering with Biome Makers allows us to expand our soil testing services beyond traditional chemistry and into the biological dimension,” said Brent Pohlman, chief executive officer of Midwest Labs. “We’re offering our customers soil microbiome intelligence that can inform input decisions and soil management.” Founded in 1975, Nebraska-based Midwest Labs provides agricultural and environmental testing across soil, plant tissue, food, and animal nutrition. Its clients range from row crop growers to food processors. Adrián Ferrero, chief executive officer and co-founder of Biome Makers, described the partnership as a step toward broader adoption of biological soil testing. “By combining their trusted lab services with our BeCrop technology, we’re enabling more growers to apply biological insights on their farms,” he said. Biome Makers, established in California in 2015, operates globally and reports that its technology has been applied on more than 2.2 million acres of farmland.
