# Krastsvetmet presents Ameos Cryo ammonia synthesis technology with cryogenic purification

The system increases plant capacity by 3,000 tons per day while cutting operating pressure and energy use.

Krastsvetmet has introduced a new ammonia production technology, Ameos Cryo, at the “Mineral Fertilizers PRO” Forum in Sochi, Russia. The innovation enhances production capacity, reduces operating pressure, and lowers energy consumption.

According to Alexey Fomenko, head of the company’s ammonia and methanol technology department, Ameos Cryo differs from Western equivalents through its cryogenic unit concept and operates independently of foreign patents or copyrights.

The new system builds on Krastsvetmet’s earlier Ameos technology, used in ammonia units with capacities up to 2,500 tons per day. Ameos Cryo raises that threshold to 3,000 tons or more without increasing the size of core equipment.

Fomenko said the company received a patent for the technology a month ago. “We deeply purify syngas from inert gases by washing them with liquid nitrogen at temperatures down to minus 190 degrees Celsius, condensing methane and argon in the process,” he explained.

The process reduces operating pressure in the ammonia synthesis loop from the conventional 220–230 bar to 150 bar or less, lowering both energy use and the metal intensity of equipment.

A Krastsvetmet representative said a major Chinese engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor active in Russia’s gas chemical industry has expressed interest in using Ameos and Ameos Cryo technologies in future projects, including design, equipment supply, and plant construction.

Fomenko added that collaboration with Chinese partners could pave the way for international adoption of Ameos Cryo and strengthen Krastsvetmet’s position as a source of patent-independent technology.
