Uralchem Group has delivered 30,000 tons of potassium chloride fertilizer to Bangladesh as part of its ongoing humanitarian program. The shipment, facilitated by the UN World Food Programme (WFP), was transported from storage facilities in Latvia aboard a WFP-chartered vessel. Uralchem covered all sea freight and related costs. The latest delivery brings the company’s total charitable contributions to about 220,000 tons of mineral fertilizers since late 2022. Nearly 200,000 tons have been shipped from European ports to countries including Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and now Bangladesh. The initiative aims to support nations facing acute food insecurity and help prevent crop losses amid global supply disruptions. Uralchem stated that the effort aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to end hunger and promote sustainable agriculture. “Mineral fertilizers play a crucial role in increasing crop yields and ensuring stable food supplies,” said Uralchem CEO Dmitry Konyaev. “Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated countries in the world, faces multiple challenges to food security—from extreme weather linked to climate change to limited arable land.
