# TFI welcomes tariff exemption on fertilizer products

Publication Date: 20.11.2025, 10:00

TFI cites benefits for farmers and domestic production capacity.

The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) said it supports the Trump Administration’s decision to exempt all fertilizers from US tariffs, arguing the action will ease cost pressures for farmers and strengthen the sector’s resilience.

In a statement issued Monday, November 17, 2025, TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch said the exemption acknowledges the role fertilizers play in US food security and in maintaining stable domestic food prices. Rosenbusch noted that the United States, despite its substantial production base, remains a net importer of fertilizer, relying on foreign supply during peak spring and fall application seasons.

He said the organization plans to work closely with the administration to advance “a more open, fair, predictable, and transparent” trade environment, including efforts to remove barriers that affect materials needed to maintain and expand domestic fertilizer production.

TFI underscored the financial strain facing US farmers and said the industry’s priority is ensuring a competitive fertilizer market that supports agricultural productivity and keeps food affordable for American consumers.

Founded in 1883, TFI represents US fertilizer producers, wholesalers, retailers and trading firms, and provides legislative, technical and economic support to its members.
