# Sumitomo Corporation acquires Metribuzin solo business from Bayer in key global markets

Publication Date: 09.12.2025, 12:00

Deal expands Summit Agro’s portfolio across Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Canada.

Sumitomo Corporation has acquired Bayer’s Metribuzin solo business—including the well-known SENCOR brand—in more than 20 countries across Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Canada. The agreement covers the active ingredient Metribuzin and its solo formulations, while Bayer will retain rights to products where Metribuzin is used in mixtures and continue developing new combination products.

The global market for standalone Metribuzin products reached about €180 million in 2023 (roughly $195 million), with demand concentrated in soybeans, potatoes, and sugarcane. ![](https://www.fertilizerdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1764901656086.jpg)SENCOR, a leading brand in this segment, will now be integrated into the portfolio of Summit Agro, Sumitomo’s wholly owned subsidiary. The transaction includes trademarks, regulatory registrations, inventories, commercial contracts, and technical know-how.

Sumitomo will take over manufacturing, distribution, and commercialization activities in the affected markets, with Bayer supporting the handover to ensure continuity for distributors and growers. The company said the acquisition will enhance its ability to offer a broader range of crop protection solutions and create additional opportunities for innovation tied to sustainable agriculture.

Metribuzin, the active ingredient in SENCOR, is a selective herbicide widely used in soybeans, pulses, potatoes, vegetables, and sugarcane. Its role in weed control has made it a longstanding tool for producers seeking reliable agronomic performance.
