# PhosAgro reports sharp growth in fertilizer exports to India

Publication Date: 10.12.2025, 09:00

Company strengthens position as key supplier of phosphorus-based products

PhosAgro said its fertilizer exports to India continued to rise sharply this year, underscoring the country’s role as one of the company’s most important overseas markets.

The Russian producer now accounts for more than a quarter of India’s imports of phosphorus-containing fertilizers. The company has supplied Indian buyers for more than 25 years and developed customized grades for local conditions when it first entered the market in the 1990s.

According to chief executive Alexander Gilgenberg, demand for fertilizers with low levels of contaminants is increasing in India as the agricultural sector expands and environmental standards become more prominent in farming policy. The company promotes its products as being derived from high-purity raw materials without dangerous concentrations of cadmium or other harmful impurities.

PhosAgro supplied more than 1.3 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers to India in 2024, nearly triple the company’s volumes in 2021. Exports continued to accelerate in 2025: shipments reached 2.57 million tonnes in the first 11 months of the year, 2.3 times higher than a year earlier. Sales in the third quarter alone were more than 12 times greater than in the same period of 2024.

The company said its fertilizers, used across India’s varied soil and climate zones, support stable yield improvement and help maintain soil fertility, contributing to efforts to strengthen long-term food security.
