# Elsoms expands processing capacity with £1.7m facility

UK seed company adds throughput and grading capability as demand for quality standards rises.

Elsoms Seeds has opened a new £1.7 million (roughly $2.28 million USD) seed processing facility, expanding its processing capacity and upgrading quality control as seed producers invest in more efficient and precise operations.

The facility is equipped with specialist processing and grading technology designed to increase throughput, improve grading accuracy and enable customer-specific seed treatments. The investment is intended to support consistent seed performance while accommodating higher volumes and more tailored requirements from commercial partners.

Elsoms supplies seed to growers and seed companies in the UK and overseas, working with partners including Bejo, Saaten Union and Crites Seeds. The additional capacity is expected to support these relationships as breeding programs and regulatory standards place greater emphasis on uniformity, traceability and processing precision.

The site was formally opened in January. The event marked the retirement of Robin Wood, who stepped down at the end of 2025 after nearly 30 years with the company, where he was closely associated with seed quality management. A commemorative plaque was installed at the facility.

Capital spending on processing infrastructure has increased across the European seed sector in recent years, as suppliers seek to improve efficiency and meet tighter technical specifications from growers and downstream partners.
