# NEXTCHEM wins €485 million contract for major nitrogen fertilizer complexes in West Africa

Project will deploy integrated hydrogen, ammonia, urea and methanol technologies across three large-scale production sites.

NEXTCHEM, part of MAIRE, has secured contracts worth €485 million (about USD 528 million) to provide technology licensing, process design packages and critical equipment for three large nitrogen fertilizer complexes in West Africa. The projects will deploy the company’s proprietary hydrogen, ammonia, urea and methanol technologies across multiple production lines at three separate locations.

Two of the complexes will focus on urea production and will include four hydrogen units, four ammonia units, four urea-melt trains and six urea granulation units. Together, the plants are expected to produce more than 3 million metric tons of urea annually using the NX AdWinHydrogen, NX STAMI Ammonia and NX STAMI Urea technologies. A third complex will integrate ammonia and methanol production, with capacity exceeding 900,000 metric tons of ammonia and more than 600,000 metric tons of methanol per year, including a unit designed to co-produce both products using the NX AdWin Combined technology.

Engineering activities have already begun, with about €10 million (around USD 10.9 million) recognized in the pre–final investment decision phase, while the remainder of the contract value will be confirmed following the final investment decision. According to NEXTCHEM managing director Fabio Fritelli, the award represents the company’s largest contract to date and marks the first integrated application of technologies from its subsidiaries Stamicarbon, GasConTec and KT Tech in a single project.
