[Ostara](https://www.ostara.com) has appointed Michael Howell as vice president of agronomy, bringing in a former Nutrien agronomist to help accelerate adoption of the company’s high-efficiency phosphorus fertilizers.

The St. Louis-based fertilizer producer said Howell will lead agronomic strategy, research programs, technical education, and grower engagement as the company expands commercialization of its CG P2X phosphate fertilizer technology. According to Ostara, Howell has more than 20 years of experience spanning agricultural research, extension services, and crop input commercialization.

Ostara Chief Executive Tom Snipes said Howell’s background combining scientific research with practical farm application would support the company’s efforts to improve nutrient-use efficiency and crop performance. Before joining Ostara, Howell served as senior agronomist at Nutrien, where he led research initiatives and product adoption programs and hosted the company’s “The Dirt Podcast.”

Earlier in his career, Howell worked with the Mississippi State University Extension Service and Monsanto, focusing on grower education, applied agronomy, and insect-tolerant crop research. Ostara said Howell has authored more than 70 scientific publications and presentations and is currently completing a Ph.D. in agronomy alongside an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi.

In his new role, Howell will oversee technical presentations and agronomic education programs for growers, retailers, and internal teams. He said he plans to focus on expanding field adoption of CG P2X fertilizer products and improving long-term nutrient efficiency for farmers.
