# Syngenta partners with Groundwork BioAg to market mycorrhizal biologicals and carbon credits

The deal pairs Rootella inoculant technology with Syngenta distribution for corn, soy and cereals across Latin America and Europe.

Syngenta and Israeli bioagriculture company Groundwork BioAg announced a strategic partnership on July 14 to commercialize Groundwork's Rootella mycorrhizal inoculant technology under Syngenta's label, pairing biological crop performance with a soil carbon credit program for farmers.

Under the agreement, Syngenta will distribute mycorrhizal biologicals across corn, soybean, cereal and sunflower markets in Latin America and Europe, with plans to expand into additional regions. Groundwork BioAg will handle manufacturing, supply, digital tools and the full carbon program development. Mycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic relationships with crop root systems, improving nutrient and water uptake while supporting long-term soil health. The Rootella Carbon program has already been deployed across more than 280,000 hectares globally.

The partnership gives farmers a dual value proposition: enhanced crop yields through better nutrient absorption and a new income stream from carbon credits generated by increased soil carbon storage. Petra Laux, Syngenta's chief sustainability officer, said the model builds farm resilience while accumulating carbon stocks. Groundwork BioAg CEO Alon Werber said the deal provides commercial validation and positions mycorrhizal fungi as both an agronomic input and a pathway for agricultural climate mitigation.
