Bayer launches 10-year blockbuster wave with Plenexos insecticide and Vyconic 5-herbicide soy trait

Bayer Crop Science is entering a new phase of product launches aimed at delivering 10 blockbuster innovations over the next decade, each with peak sales potential exceeding €500 million. The company outlined the pipeline September 2 at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa.
Plenexos, a new insecticide targeting sucking pests across soy, cotton, fruits and vegetables, has already launched in Colombia. Mexico, Brazil and the United States are next. Bayer says Plenexos allows farmers to use up to 75% less active ingredient compared with existing products while safeguarding pollinators and beneficial insects.
Vyconic, described as the industry’s first soybean trait stack with tolerance to five herbicides, is expected for U.S. and Canadian introduction in 2027. Bayer says Vyconic will be introduced in elite-performing varieties that have demonstrated a yield increase of more than 2 bushels per acre over existing genetics. The Preceon Smart Corn System, which integrates short-stature corn with digital capabilities through FieldView, is already being commercialized.
In Brazil, Intacta 5+ is expected for the 2027/2028 growing season, bringing five herbicide tolerances along with new insect protection traits designed specifically for that market.
“We are delivering on the promises we made and bringing a new generation of game-changing products to farmers,” said Rodrigo Santos, head of Bayer’s Crop Science division.
