The seventh annual AgTech Breakthrough Awards honored the E3 center pivot for improved water application and energy efficiency.

The award recognizes technology innovations across the global agricultural and food technology landscape.

The E3 is Reinke's latest center pivot platform, designed for improved water application uniformity and energy efficiency. Center pivot irrigation systems are the dominant method for large-scale crop watering across the U.S. Great Plains, Midwest, and western irrigated regions, where they serve corn, soybean, wheat, and cotton acreage.

Reinke, a privately held Nebraska-based manufacturer, competes in the irrigation equipment market alongside Valmont Industries (which owns Valley Irrigation) and Lindsay Corporation. The center pivot irrigation market in the United States alone was estimated at approximately $2.5 billion in 2025, driven by rising water costs, aquifer depletion concerns, and the push toward precision water application that matches variable soil and crop needs.

Efficient irrigation directly affects fertilizer performance. Overapplication of water leaches nitrogen below the root zone, wasting both water and fertilizer. Precision center pivots that deliver variable-rate water application allow growers to match irrigation to nutrient application zones, improving nitrogen use efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint of fertilizer inputs.
