# Ammonia Energy Association certification system enters pilot phase with Envision Energy

The Ammonia Energy Association's [ammonia certification system](https://ammoniaenergy.org/certification/) has entered its pilot phase, with Envision Energy among the first participants to test the registry that aims to create a global standard for low-carbon ammonia. The certification framework, developed jointly by AEA and MiQ, was launched in April 2026 and is designed to provide buyers with verified, production-level data on the carbon intensity of ammonia across its lifecycle.

Pilot participants now span the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, covering a range of production pathways including green ammonia from electrolysis, blue ammonia with carbon capture, and conventional production with emissions abatement. The registry assigns certification tiers based on verified greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of ammonia produced, giving offtakers and regulators a common benchmark for comparing products from different sources and technologies.

The system arrives at a critical moment for ammonia markets. AEA said the pilot phase will run through early 2027, after which it plans to open the registry to all producers. The association has not disclosed the full list of pilot participants or the specific certification tiers under evaluation.
