BioConsortia will use the money to fund commercial launches of its biostimulant and gene-edited microbial nitrogen products, backed again by an Otter Capital affiliate.

[BioConsortia](https://www.bioconsortia.com/), a Davis, California-based developer of microbial crop inputs, has raised $15M to accelerate worldwide sales of its lead biostimulant and nitrogen-fixing seed treatment, according to FinSMEs on October 12.

The round came from an entity affiliated with John Pasquesi, managing member of Otter Capital, an existing investor. BioConsortia said the funds will support commercial growth and new product launches.

Led by CEO Marcus Meadows-Smith, the company combines microbial discovery, gene editing and field validation to build biologicals for row and specialty crops. Its products, as reported by industry newsletter GrowinAgri, are the Zaffre biostimulant and the Always N nitrogen-fixing seed treatment, which supplies biological nitrogen to reduce synthetic fertilizer needs.

GrowinAgri reported that Always N is approaching an estimated 80% market share in New Zealand in 2026 and is rolling out across the Americas with Mosaic. BioConsortia first [launched its nitrogen-fixing microbial seed treatment in New Zealand with H&T](https://www.fertilizerdaily.com/20241211-bioconsortia-and-ht-partner-to-launch-nitrogen-fixing-microbial-seed-treatment-in-new-zealand/) in late 2024.

The raise lands as growers weigh nitrogen bills well above year-ago levels, which strengthens the sales case for products that can partly replace applied nitrogen. The next test is whether field performance holds as BioConsortia scales beyond New Zealand into large corn markets.
