Azerbaijan wants to produce green manure fertilizer

Alovsat Guliyev, the Director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agro Chemistry of Azerbaijan said that they had developed a project to obtain green manure fertilizers from the green mass formed in greenhouses.

According to his report, the greenhouses in Azerbaijan, particularly in the suburbs of Baku, occupy an area of about 2.5 thousand hectares. Tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and other crops are grown in these greenhouses.

“At the end of the fruiting period of these plants, their stems are removed and discharged as waste. These number of greenhouses annually provide 200-250 thousand tons of green mass. If we collect this mass, slightly soft it with bacteria and get rid of inimical bacteria, we can get fertilizer to use on the farms,” said Alovsat Guliyev.
