UN urges not to prohibit Russian fertilizer exports

It’s necessary to remove all existing obstacles to the export of mineral fertilizers from Russia, including ammonia, said António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. These products are not subject to Western sanctions and the UN is working to eliminate barriers to their supply.
According to the statement of António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, there are already reports of problems for farmers in West Africa and beyond who are facing high prices and shortages of mineral fertilizers and therefore farming less agricultural land.
The UN also calls for attention to the problem of the impact of natural gas prices on the production of nitrogen fertilizers. And if measures are not taken now, the shortage of mineral fertilizers will quickly turn into a global food shortage.
