The American company CF Industries announced that it’s going to buy an ammonia plant in Louisiana with a capacity of 880 thousand tons per year from the Australian Incitec Pivot (IPL).
The transaction amounts $1.675 billion, of which $1.25 billion will be paid in cash and $425 million are reserved for the supply of ammonia to the explosives manufacturer Dyno Nobel (an IPL subsidiary) under a long-term offtake contract for up to 200 thousand tons of ammonia per year.
The IPL plant started up in 2016 and has three main customers including Dyno Nobel. The facility is located near CF Industries’ Donaldsville facility, the world’s largest ammonia site.
The total capacity of CF Industries Holdings for the production of ammonia is 10 million tons per year.
