Pemex: inside the corruption scandal

Former head of the Mexican oil and gas corporation Pemex Emilio Lozoya will be transferred from a prison in the city of Malaga to a similar institution in Madrid (Spain).
This decision was for administrative reasons, due to the proximity of the Madrid prison to the National Court of Justice., authorized to make a decision at the request of the Mexican authorities for extradition.
The former head of Pemex was arrested on February 12 in the province of Malaga on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Mexico in 2019. He was wanted in his country in connection with the events of 2012 and 2013, while he was CEO of Petroleos Mexicanos. Mexican prosecutors are accusing Emilio Lozoya of corruption estimating the amount of damage at 280 million dollars. He left Mexico last May.
Emilio Lozoya was allegedly involved in corrupt activities when he led Pemex (2012-2016). This refers to Pemex’s purchase of a fertilizer plant from AHMSA for about $ 500 million, while according to current authorities, its cost did not exceed $ 50 million.
