Yara announced on Wednesday that it is purchasing the Italian fertilizer business Agribios Italiana.

The Norwegian firm said that Agribios has a broad portfolio of organic and organo-mineral fertilizers – and that, having produced 60,000 tonnes of product in 2022, it holds around a 10% share of the Italian organic-based fertilizer market.

Yara stated that the acquisition will enhance its regenerative agriculture offering, pointing out that the synergistic use of organic and mineral fertilizers improves soil health, resource use, and crop resilience.

It also said that Agribios’ local expertise will help it to gain a strong foothold in Italy, and that, owing to its well-established sales and distribution platform, it will be able to offer Agribios’ products further afield too.

Yara noted that this is its second bolt-on acquisition in support of its organic strategy in Europe. In 2021 it acquired Ecolan, a Finnish producer of organic-based fertilizers.
