Egypt’s Abu Qir Fertilizers signs green hydrogen deal

The Abu Qir Fertilizers Company has signed a green hydrogen agreement with ABB International Group, MPS Infrastructure Company, and Petrojet, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated on Tuesday.

The ministry said that the MoU seeks to facilitate the supply of green hydrogen and renewable electricity to the North Abu Qir for Agricultural Nutrients Company, which will use these inputs to produce green ammonia and granulated ammonium nitrate fertilizer.

The North Abu Qir for Agricultural Nutrients Company was established in May 2023 and is reported to have an ammonia production capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day and an ammonium nitrate production capacity of 2,400 tonnes per day.

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, was present at the signing ceremony. He indicated that the national oil and gas industry is always willing to work with the private sector to advance the state’s strategic objectives pertaining to oil, gas, and green energy.
