Kraton Corporation, a producer of specialty polymers and biobased products, has announced the launch of SYLVASOLV, a new line of biobased hydrocarbon oils billed as delivering both superior performance and environmental advantages. SYLVASOLV 1000, the first product of this line, is specifically formulated to meet the agricultural industry’s needs, enhancing fertilizer coatings and crop protection methods.

Lana Culbert, the Senior Director of Global Marketing at Kraton, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “The introduction of SYLVASOLV biobased oils signifies our dedication to offering sustainable alternatives to conventional petroleum-based products.” SYLVASOLV 1000, a completely biobased oil, promises to not only refine fertilizer coating processes but also to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions.

Applicable to a variety of fertilizer coating tasks, SYLVASOLV 1000 is engineered to control dust, prevent caking, and improve handling, storage, and application processes. Its utility extends to pesticide formulations, where it acts as an oil-based adjuvant, ensuring effective wetting and penetration that enhance the performance of pesticides.

Sourced from Crude Tall Oil (CTO), a sustainable by-product of Kraft pulp processing, the SYLVASOLV range epitomizes Kraton’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The oils are derived from non-genetically modified trees from responsibly managed forests, sidestepping competition with food crops and avoiding land use change. Besides the ecological benefits, SYLVASOLV oils offer remarkable solvency power that allows for more versatile formulations, lower viscosity, and safer handling characteristics, especially in low temperatures.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
