Growers Edge acquires FarmTest to expand agronomic data capabilities

Growers Edge, a US-based agricultural fintech firm, has acquired FarmTest, an automated performance testing platform for commercial farms, as part of its strategy to deepen its data-driven financial offerings for ag retailers, manufacturers, and lenders. The deal brings FarmTest founder and CEO Nick Cizek into Growers Edge’s leadership team as Vice President of Innovation Operations.

The acquisition adds to a series of moves Growers Edge has made to build a connected fintech platform underpinned by agronomic insights. The company acquired agricultural lending software firm Agcor in late 2024 and announced in January that its flagship Crop Plan Warranty product had surpassed 1 million acres of coverage. In April, Growers Edge raised $25 million in funding to support its growth.

“FarmTest adds powerful, field-level performance validation capabilities,” said Matt Hansen, CEO of Growers Edge. “We’re the only company developing financial tools backed by this level of agronomic data, and this brings us closer to offering a fully integrated solution for agriculture.”

Growers Edge plans to integrate FarmTest’s automated testing tools to help ag retailers and manufacturers design and execute plot and strip trials on commercial farms. These trials are expected to improve the agronomic basis of the company’s Crop Plan Warranty by streamlining how field data is collected and analyzed across various crops and regions.

“FarmTest solidifies the foundation of our warranty products by enhancing how we script, execute, and analyze field trials,” said Ahraz Husain, Chief Innovation Officer at Growers Edge. “This supports a growing demand for field-proven products and strengthens both profitability and performance.”

FarmTest’s system uses commercial equipment and GPS-enabled yield monitors to gather data on any ag input applied with a variable rate prescription. According to Cizek, the partnership with Growers Edge will scale “accessible, outcome-based agriculture solutions that reduce risk for farmers, retailers, and manufacturers.”

Growers Edge’s Crop Plan Warranty product provides financial protection on inputs and whole-acre prescriptions. The product is currently used by four of the top ten US ag retailers and hundreds of growers covering over 1 million acres.

Financial terms of the FarmTest acquisition were not disclosed.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
