Bioceres and Colorado Wheat Foundation partner to advance HB4 wheat in U.S.

Bioceres Crop Solutions and the Colorado Wheat Research Foundation (CWRF) have announced a strategic partnership to develop and commercialize HB4 wheat in the United States.
The agreement, unveiled on September 23, grants CWRF exclusive sublicensable rights to Bioceres’ HB4 trait technology in the U.S. CWRF will act as Trait Manager, overseeing access to the technology for public and private breeding programs, as well as engaging stakeholders in its rollout.
HB4 wheat, developed by Argentina-based Bioceres, is designed to enhance climate resilience and support environmentally responsible weed management. The partners plan to integrate the HB4 trait with new herbicide formulations and biological solutions, with the aim of creating a next-generation production system that boosts productivity while maintaining environmental safety.
“This collaboration marks a significant step forward for HB4 wheat in the United States, and aligns with our renewed seed strategy: to focus on our core strength of developing cutting-edge science and to partner with top-tier industry players,” said Federico Trucco, chief executive of Bioceres.
Brad Erker, executive director of CWRF, described the agreement as “an important milestone for the wheat industry” and emphasized the foundation’s commitment to inclusive access and responsible deployment of the technology.
Bioceres will continue to lead regulatory processes, including securing approvals in major export markets and aligning with U.S. Wheat Industry Principles for Biotechnology Commercialization. The company said the HB4 trait will be made broadly available through an open licensing model, intended to ensure transparency, quality and stewardship.
