Embraer marks 1,700 deliveries of Ipanema agricultural aircraft in Brazil

Embraer has delivered its 1,700th Ipanema agricultural aircraft, consolidating its position as the dominant supplier in Brazil’s aerial application market, the company told AgroPages. The ethanol-powered model holds about 60% of the country’s agricultural aviation segment, supported by sustained demand from operators seeking higher productivity and reduced operating costs.
Sany Onofre, head of Embraer’s agricultural aviation division, said the milestone reflects the aircraft’s long-term role in Brazil’s farm sector. More than 180 units have been delivered in the past three years, a pace that Embraer says highlights market confidence despite financial strain across Brazilian agribusiness, including rising judicial recovery filings.

The latest EMB-203 version is equipped to improve precision and speed, with application capacity exceeding 200 hectares per hour. Embraer says the aircraft can perform work comparable to multiple large ground sprayers while avoiding soil compaction and limiting pest dissemination — factors the company argues contribute to stronger field performance.
The Ipanema’s ethanol engine draws on Brazil’s extensive biofuel network, reducing reliance on aviation gasoline, which remains costly and difficult to source in rural regions. The fuel profile also aligns with sustainability goals increasingly scrutinized in agricultural supply chains, though lifecycle emissions vary according to ethanol production methods.
Embraer has expanded its involvement in pilot training, saying its customer support team now participates in every agricultural pilot class in the country to reinforce safety practices in low-altitude operations.
The company’s accumulated deliveries underscore the durability of the platform in a market where certification requirements and technical support needs create significant barriers for competitors.
