BASF acquires AgBiTech to expand biological insect control portfolio

BASF has completed the acquisition of AgBiTech, marking a strategic expansion of its biological crop protection portfolio as demand for sustainable farming solutions accelerates. The deal, finalized on March 31, 2026, follows a January agreement with Paine Schwartz Partners and other shareholders, after securing all necessary regulatory approvals. BASF said the acquisition will support faster scaling and broader adoption of biological insect control technologies globally.
The company highlighted the rapid growth of the biologicals market, positioning the acquisition as a step to strengthen its competitiveness in the segment. AgBiTech brings established expertise and a strong commercial presence, particularly in Brazil, a key market for biological crop protection. BASF plans to integrate AgBiTech’s technologies into its broader portfolio while maintaining operational agility and customer focus to support farmers with diversified pest control solutions.
Executives from both companies emphasized the strategic fit, noting that BASF’s global reach and research capabilities could accelerate the deployment of AgBiTech’s technologies beyond its core markets. The move aligns with BASF’s broader strategy to expand sustainable agriculture offerings, combining biological and conventional solutions to address evolving regulatory and environmental pressures.
