Belaruskali suspended due to the strikes

Workers of Belaruskali have stopped mining potassium salts, said Maxim Poznyakov, the Chairman of the Belarusian independent trade union. As he reports, strike committees have been formed at all mines of Belaruskali.

“The workers haven’t gone into the mines, therefore ore is not mined, and production is stagnated,” said Maxim Poznyakov.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, commenting on the strikes, said that “someone wants to go on strike — let them go on strike, but they have nothing to do at factories.” At the same time, he called on the heads of the enterprises to warn their staff but “do not pressure on anyone”.

Mass protests have begun in the country on August 9 following the presidential election.
