Production of mineral fertilizers in Russia decreased by 10%

In February, the output of mineral fertilizers by Russian producers amounted to 1.9 million tons, which is 9.6% less compared to the same period last year. In total, 4 million tons of fertilizers were produced in the first two months of this year, which is 10.2% less than in the same period in 2022, reports the Federal State Statistics Service.

The production of potassium fertilizers in February decreased by 35.2%. Russian enterprises produced 1.1 million tons of potassium fertilizers in the first two months of this year. Compared to the same period in 2022, this figure fell by 35.6%.

A similar trend has been observed throughout the last year. Representatives of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association explained that such a situation is associated with the low demand for mineral fertilizers in Russian agriculture and the reduction in exports caused by sanctions.

At the same time, the production of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers increased. In February 2023, phosphorus fertilizers were produced by 3.9% more than in February last year. During the January-February period of 2023, 700 thousand tons of fertilizers were produced. This is 12.7% more than last year.

February’s output of nitrogen fertilizers increased by 7.5%. In the first two months of this year, 2.1 million tons of fertilizers were produced. This is 4.2 million tons more than was produced last year for the same period.
