Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to improve financial inclusion and support for smallholder farmers across the nation. This collaboration, signed on October 16, marks a pioneering move to merge financial services with essential agricultural resources, paving the way for enhanced productivity and improved farmer livelihoods.

The ceremony, which took place in the presence of senior officials from both organizations, was led by Mr. Asad Murad, Chief Operating Officer of Fatima Fertilizer, and Mr. Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti, President and CEO of ZTBL. This partnership is deemed the first of its kind within the industry, setting a novel precedent for agricultural financing and empowerment of farmers.

Mr. Murad highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement, stating, “This MOU strengthens our mission to provide smallholder farmers with the tools they need to improve productivity and contribute to Pakistan’s food security. By combining our innovative solutions with ZTBL’s financial services, we empower farmers and pioneer our way ahead in sustainable agricultural practices across the country.”

Representatives from Fatima Fertilizer at the signing included Ms. Rabel Sadozai, Director of Marketing and Sales; Mr. Usman Arshad Mian, Head of Planning and Business Integration; Mr. Raja Shakir Khan, Manager of Planning and Business Integration; Mr. Hessan Amin, Lead Digital Projects; and Mr. Abdullah Khalid, Assistant Manager of BI and digitization.

Mr. Bhatti of ZTBL added his perspective, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to enhancing farmer empowerment through financial inclusion. “This partnership with Fatima Fertilizer will provide smallholder farmers with the necessary agricultural inputs and offer them the financial support to grow and thrive,” he said.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
