Haifa Group has inaugurated a new Multicote blending facility in Uberlândia, Brazil. The facility is strategically designed to increase the production of controlled-release fertilizers (CRFs), meeting the growing demand from Brazilian farmers.

The facility’s daily output of Multicote products is poised to enhance the availability and service delivery for various crops, including vegetables, onions, and corn, throughout the region. One of the standout features of the new plant is its ability to offer customized fertilizer blends tailored to specific crop and soil needs in Brazil.

      What is Multicote?

Multicote is a brand of controlled-release fertilizers (CRFs) developed by Haifa Group. These fertilizers are designed to deliver nutrients to plants in a controlled manner over an extended period of time. The technology behind Multicote involves coating fertilizer granules with a semi-permeable polymer that regulates the release of nutrients. This release is primarily influenced by soil temperature, ensuring that nutrients are available to plants at optimal times to match their growth needs.

The benefits of using Multicote include improved nutrient use efficiency, reduced fertilizer application frequency, and minimized environmental impact due to decreased nutrient runoff and leaching. Multicote products are used across various types of agriculture, including horticulture, arable crops, and ornamental gardening, supporting healthier plant growth and higher yields.

Expansion of Haifa Group in Brazil

Giuliana Feldman, Executive Director of Haifa South America, emphasized the importance of this facility, stating, “We have been present in Brazil for over 20 years, and this inauguration establishes our roots firmly as precision nutrition producers in the country, catering to the specific demands of the diverse crops grown here.”

The introduction of the Uberlândia facility aligns with Haifa Group’s mission to empower global growers with cutting-edge nutritional solutions, aiming to optimize plant growth, increase productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices. Multicote technology offers environmental advantages by reducing potential nutrient losses through leaching, volatilization, or fixation, thus mitigating environmental impact.

The launch of this facility is a part of Haifa’s broader strategy to enhance its service efficiency and support to local farmers, ensuring they receive timely and effective plant nutrition solutions tailored to their specific needs.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
