Fauji Fertilizer announces $3.57 million financing initiative for Pakistani farmers

Pakistan’s fertilizer manufacturer Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) has announced new financial initiative aimed at supporting the country’s agricultural sector. On March 19, FFC disclosed a partnership with four prominent local and international banks to offer up to PKR 500,000 ($1,790) in clean financing to farmers registered at its Sona Centres. This move will boost financial inclusion and spur agricultural growth across Pakistan.
The collaboration was formalized at a ceremony in Islamabad’s Serena Hotel, attended by notable figures such as Lt. Gen Anwar Ali Hyder (R), Chairman of the FFC Board, and Mr Jahangir Piracha, Managing Director & CEO of FFC. Representatives from the Bank of Punjab, Bank Alfalah, Askari Bank Limited, and Faysal Bank were also present, demonstrating a unified commitment to supporting Pakistan’s agricultural backbone—its farmers.
This initiative is designed to make credit more accessible and farmer-friendly, bridging the existing gap between financial institutions and the agricultural sector. Registered farmers at Sona Centres can now access hassle-free credit, enabling them to invest in quality agricultural inputs, enhance productivity, and improve livelihoods, thereby contributing to the growth of the agricultural economy.
FFC has already made significant strides in supporting small farmers by establishing 75 company-owned sales outlets, known as Sona Centres, covering nearly 1 million acres across the country. The company plans to expand this network to 100 centers by March 2025.
The initiative also builds on FFC’s recent merger with FFBL, which was formalized on July 1, 2024, following approval by the Lahore High Court. FFC now boasts a urea production capacity exceeding 2.5 million tonnes from four operational plants. Since its inception, FFC has made substantial contributions to the National Exchequer, totaling over US$20.34 billion through the import substitution of more than 72.3 million tonnes of urea.
