FMC secures approval for Fidresa fungicide in Argentina

FMC has received regulatory approval for its Fidresa fungicide in Argentina, marking a significant development in its global rollout of fluindapyr-based products. The fungicide is aimed at cereal growers facing heightened disease pressure from pathogens such as tan spot, leaf scald, rusts, and other leaf diseases.
Juan Ortiz, FMC’s vice president for Latin America, said the new product is expected to help producers protect crop quality and yields amid increasingly adverse growing conditions. “Cereal producers are facing mounting disease pressure that can significantly compromise crop quality and yield potential,” Ortiz said. “Fidresa fungicide delivers robust disease protection, enabling growers to maintain healthier, more productive and more marketable cereal crops.”
Argentina remains a major global producer of cereals, with wheat accounting for roughly 6.3 million hectares and barley for around 1.6 million hectares of cultivation. FMC stated that the launch of Fidresa fungicide provides an additional tool to safeguard output on these key production areas.
Henrik Ohlsen, global fungicide portfolio manager at FMC, said the product offers effective control against some of the most challenging cereal diseases in the region. “This registration represents an important advancement for Argentinian agriculture,” he said.
Fidresa contains fluindapyr, an active ingredient classified as a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI). The compound is designed to deliver broad-spectrum activity, extended residual control, and resistance management benefits, particularly in cases where pathogens have developed resistance to other fungicide classes. The product is expected to be available to Argentine growers beginning in June.
