Timac Agro has introduced “Carbon Neutral,” a new line of solid fertilizers verified as carbon neutral regarding CO₂ equivalent emissions (CO₂e). The range includes RHIZOVIT PROCESS, D-CODER TOP, and SULFAMMO N-PRO, which have collectively sold over 1.3 million tonnes to more than 28,000 clients. The company claims the new formulations can cut emissions generated during crop cultivation by up to 75%.

Timac Agro, a subsidiary of the Roullier Group, is one of the leading Spanish companies specializing in the development, production, and marketing of fertilizers and animal nutrition products, with a strong position in the national market for specialty fertilizers. Its operations are based on three core pillars: innovation, human capital, and industrial capacity.

The company operates a global research center in Saint-Malo (France), collaborates with the University of Navarra through the Timac Agro Chair, and runs a product development center at its manufacturing plant in Lodosa, Spain. Timac Agro employs over 180 field advisors who conduct around 200,000 on-site visits annually to support farmers and distributors. Its Lodosa facility, established in 1908, supplies both domestic and international markets, with a production capacity of 270,000 tonnes of solid fertilizers, 15,000 tonnes of water-soluble fertilizers, and 10 million liters of liquid biostimulants per year.

The Carbon Neutral range is certified by the independent accreditation body EQA and developed in line with international standards ISO 14067 (Carbon Footprint of Products) and ISO 14068 (Climate Neutrality of Products). Timac Agro states that the emissions reduction applies across the entire lifecycle of the fertilizers—from raw material sourcing to field emissions.

Mitigation strategies include procuring low-carbon raw materials, exclusively using renewable energy in manufacturing processes, and applying proprietary technologies to reduce nitrous oxide emissions and enhance nutrient efficiency in the field. According to the company, residual emissions that cannot be eliminated will be offset using high-quality carbon credits.

Despite the environmental adjustments, the technical composition of the Carbon Neutral line remains consistent with the company’s existing solid fertilizer products, ensuring no change in expected productivity or quality outcomes for end users.

A Timac Agro spokesperson said the initiative responds to the fact that up to two-thirds of CO₂e emissions in the agri-food value chain stem from agricultural production, with fertilization representing a significant share. The new line is intended to help agricultural producers reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining crop yields.

The development forms part of Timac Agro’s wider sustainability commitment under its “Plan Armony 2030.” This corporate strategy will implement environmental, economic, and social sustainability measures across the company’s operations by 2030.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
