Kazakhstan launches construction of $1.25 billion urea plant

KazMunaiGas has launched a project to build Kazakhstan’s first urea production facility, aiming to reduce the country’s reliance on imported fertilizers. The plant will be constructed in the Aktobe region and will require an investment of $1.25 billion.
The facility is expected to produce urea with a nitrogen content of 46%, aligning with international quality standards. According to the company, this development marks a strategic move to support domestic agriculture and strengthen the national fertilizer supply chain.
Currently, Kazakhstan lacks any local production of urea, leaving farmers dependent on imports to meet their fertilizer needs. The new plant is intended to close this supply gap and enhance the country’s agricultural self-sufficiency.
