Maxam-Chirchiq plant in Uzbekistan halts operations over environmental breaches

Operations at the Maxam-Chirchiq chemical plant in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region have been temporarily halted after an inspection identified a series of environmental infractions. The Chirchik Interdistrict Economic Court ordered the suspension on 26 November, following a lawsuit filed by the national Committee on Ecology.
According to the inspection findings, the plant committed 11 significant violations of environmental regulations. Specialists recorded emissions above permitted levels, inadequate performance of dust and gas filtration systems, and non-compliance with wastewater discharge standards. Inspectors also reported improper storage of chemical materials outside designated zones and delays in mandated compensation payments.
The court’s decision requires the facility to address the violations before operations can resume.
