SAS Group has acquired Ceres Biotics, a Madrid-based company specializing in microbial biofertilizers and biostimulants, extending its reach into a fast-growing segment of agricultural inputs.
Ceres Biotics develops products based on beneficial microorganisms aimed at improving soil health and crop performance. The deal gives SAS Group added research capacity and a portfolio of microbial technologies as farmers and regulators show increasing interest in biological alternatives to conventional chemicals.
The acquisition follows a series of transactions since Stirling Square Capital Partners invested in SAS Group five years ago. The company bought Biovert in 2023, Pevesa Agroscience in 2024, and Brazil-based Aqua do Brasil and CODIAGRO last year, building a broader platform in specialty crop nutrition and biosolutions.
Chief Executive Eduard Vallverdú said the addition of Ceres Biotics expands SAS Group’s capabilities in microorganisms and strengthens its research base. He said the target company brings technical expertise and products that complement SAS Group’s existing portfolio.
Ceres Biotics has focused its research on identifying and developing probiotic microbial strains for agricultural use. SAS Group said integrating those capabilities is expected to support its product development pipeline and widen its offering to growers, particularly in Europe, where Ceres Biotics has an established commercial presence.
Biological crop inputs, including microbial products, are drawing more investment across the agriculture sector as growers seek tools that can help maintain yields while meeting tighter environmental standards.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
