Origin Enterprises has agreed to acquire Clarendon Agricare, a Northern Ireland-based distributor of crop protection products, expanding its footprint in the region.

The deal, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to complete within weeks. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Clarendon operates from a facility in Portadown, County Armagh, supplying products and advisory services to agricultural merchants across Northern Ireland, serving grassland, arable, horticulture and amenity sectors.

The acquisition builds on Origin’s existing operations in Northern Ireland, where it is active through its local business and fertilizer and feed joint ventures.

“Clarendon Agricare is a well-established distributor within the Northern Ireland agricultural sector,” Chief Executive Sean Coyle said.

Origin, which provides agronomy services, inputs distribution and digital agriculture tools across Ireland, the U.K. and continental Europe, has expanded through targeted acquisitions of distribution and service businesses.

The deal comes as agricultural input distributors in the U.K. and Ireland face pressure from regulatory changes, tighter margins and shifting farmer purchasing patterns, driving further consolidation across the sector.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
