A round-table discussion devoted to the results of field trials run for mineral fertilizers produced by Uralchem has been held in the Kirov Region. Among the participants of the meeting there were representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Kirov Region, employees of agronomic services and scientific organizations, experts from the Kirovo-Chepetsk Chemical Plant (KCKK, part of Uralchem), Uralchem and Digital Agro.

The managers and specialists of agricultural enterprises that have already tested Uralchem fertilizers in various crops shared the results with their colleagues: increasing yields, profits and lessons learned.

“In 2018, we used the Uralchem scheme of fertilizer application during fertigation on a small area. In 2019 we already applied it on a larger area and got excellent results from interaction with the Uralchem agronomic service,” said Vladimir Goman, Executive Director of Krasnogorsk Agroindustrial Complex. “For example, the increase in rapeseed amounted to 9.71 centners per 1 ha, in monetary terms – a profit of 15.388 rubles (approximately $215.3) from 1 ha”.

In 2019, the test area in the Kirov region amounted to 1.859 thousand ha. They were held on spring wheat, spring barley, oats, peas, soybeans, canola, potatoes. In addition, the agronomic service of the enterprise worked with farms in other regions: successful trials were conducted in the Nizhny Novgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tambov, Bryansk, Orel, Rostov, Sverdlovsk regions; in the republics of Udmurtia, Mordovia, Chuvashia; in Krasnodar, Stavropol, Altai territories.

“We are interested in scientific experience,” said Igor Ustyuzhanin, Director of the Federal Agrarian Scientific Center of the North-East. “In 2019, when testing new developments, we received a twofold increase in productivity. The next step is the adaptation of technology to specific conditions.”

The Head of the Center for Agricultural Expertise at KCKK, Mikhail Domnin, also spoke about the tests in other regions of the country, the identified errors that could lead to yield loss, and the opportunities that the company can share to increase the profits of agricultural enterprises. These are proven technologies, a high level of agricultural consulting, innovative fertilizers. Some participants in the meeting also managed to assess the benefits of agricultural digitalization in cooperation with Digital Agro in 2019. To scale up the successful result, it was decided to popularize best practices and improve the skills of agricultural personnel.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
