The Canadian company Itafos has announced that Itafos Conda (Idaho, USA) has reached its full capacity. The operation of the enterprise was previously suspended due to the interruption of supplies of sulfuric acid from the Kennecott complex (part of Rio Tinto).
Kennecott has stopped supplying Itafos Conda with sulfuric acid after an accident at its copper plant that resulted in the release of molten metal. Kennecott provides 60% of the need of Itafos Conda under a long-term agreement.
Itafos Conda is engaged in the extraction of phosphorites and their processing into phosphorus fertilizers.
