Achema stopped ammonia production again

Lithuanian producer of nitrogen fertilizers, Achema, stopped ammonia production due to the high cost of natural gas. The enterprise will be suspended until February 2023. Achema already shut down operations in September 2022, resuming them in November following a decline in natural gas prices.

“As natural gas prices rise again to the record levels of autumn, we are forced to temporarily close the ammonia workshop from December, leaving active only the production of ammonium nitrate and resins, as well as the units that serve them,” said the communications manager at Achema Yolita Macelite.

Achema is the only company in Lithuania that produces nitrogen fertilizers – carbamide, ammonium, and calcium ammonium nitrate. At the same time, it’s the largest consumer of natural gas in the country.
