Brazil Potash Corp., a key player in the global potash market, has announced the formation of an advisory board to support the advancement of its Autazes potash project. The board will be chaired by Mayo Schmidt, former Chairman and CEO of Nutrien, and includes influential figures such as Kátia Abreu, Luis Adams, Helio Diniz, Maria Claudia Guimaraes, Cidinho Santos, and William Steers.

Board Members’ Expertise:

  • Mayo Schmidt: Former CEO of Nutrien, Viterra, and Hydro One. Known for global acquisitions and building high-performance teams.
  • Kátia Abreu: Former Brazil Minister of Agriculture and Senator with extensive experience in agricultural policy and lobbying.
  • Luis Adams: Former Brazil Attorney General with significant experience in litigation, arbitration, and compliance.
  • Helio Diniz: Founder of Brazil Potash with 40 years in exploration and mining, known for discovering the Araguaia Nickel Deposit.
  • Maria Claudia Guimaraes: Former executive at Bank of America Merrill Lynch with expertise in financial markets, particularly in mining, oil & gas, and energy sectors.
  • Cidinho Santos: Former Senator for Mato Grosso State and businessman in the agricultural sector.
  • William Steers: Experienced in capital markets and project development, with a background in oil and gas.

Executive Chairman Stan Bharti stated, “Brazil Potash has assembled a very impressive advisory board with extensive networks in the fertilizer sector, Brazil’s government, and the investment community that will contribute meaningfully to transitioning our construction-ready Autazes Project into the next major potash producer.”

Brazil, one of the world’s largest net exporters of agricultural goods, imports over 95% of its potash needs. The domestic production from the Autazes project is expected to significantly enhance global food security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with potash imports.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
