Proveye secures $990,000 contract with European Space Agency

Proveye, a leading Irish remote sensing company based at NovaUCD, Dublin, has secured a second contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) under the ARTES Business Applications and Space Solutions Programme. Valued at nearly €900,000 (approximately $990,000), this contract aims to enhance Proveye’s advanced platform for monitoring land use, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity in grasslands globally.

Grasslands, which cover 54% of the Earth’s land surface and store over 20% of the planet’s soil carbon, play a critical role in climate resilience and global food production. Yet, these ecosystems remain underutilized due to challenges in large-scale monitoring. Proveye’s solution combines satellite and drone imagery with artificial intelligence, offering precise, metric-based insights that empower stakeholders to manage these ecosystems more effectively.

Proveye’s technology caters to a wide array of users, including farmers, project owners, carbon credit buyers, natural capital investors, food processors, and insurance firms. By providing accurate data, the platform ensures high-integrity nature-based credits, helping stakeholders validate environmental claims and meet sustainability targets.

Jerome O’Connell, Proveye’s CEO, emphasized the platform’s importance in addressing the dual pressures of climate change and intensive agriculture on grasslands. He noted that frequent, accurate metrics are essential for the broader adoption of nature-based solutions, especially in light of limited financial commitments at COP29.

Paul Kennedy, Proveye’s CCO, highlighted the global implications of this ESA partnership. He stated that the collaboration would not only enhance grassland and habitat management across Europe but also contribute to global sustainability goals in food production, natural capital, and biodiversity restoration.

Founded as a spin-out from University College Dublin by O’Connell and Professor Nick Holden, Proveye continues to position itself as a key player in sustainable food production and environmental monitoring. This second ESA contract signifies Proveye’s growing influence in the sector, reinforcing its mission to deliver impactful, nature-based solutions worldwide.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
