Zimbabwe’s agricultural company Seedco has introduced a new mobile application designed to empower farmers by leveraging smart farming technologies. The app, known as the Seedco Agronomy app, offers a comprehensive suite of tools aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency on the farm.

Features of the Seedco Agronomy App

The app provides detailed information about a variety of crop seeds including maize, wheat, soya, sugar beans, and others. It lists over ten different types of maize seeds along with essential data about the optimal conditions for each variety. This feature serves as a critical resource for farmers planning their planting and cultivation strategies.

Additionally, the “Growers Guide” within the app functions as an extensive library of agricultural knowledge. It covers a range of topics such as crop growing techniques, pest and disease management, optimal planting times, and the correct application of fertilizers and manure. This guide allows farmers to manage their activities from the convenience of their mobile devices.

      Logistical and Predictive Tools

To assist with the logistical aspects of farming, the app includes a directory of depot locations across Zimbabwe, simplifying the process for farmers to find the nearest storage facilities for their harvests. Before the harvest, the app’s Yield Forecasting Calculator helps predict potential yields, enabling farmers to make informed decisions about their crops. Other tools include the Yield Correction to Moisture Content Calculator and the Population Density Calculator, which further enhance the planning and management capabilities available to users.

      Comprehensive Pest and Disease Information

The Seedco Agronomy app also addresses the critical area of pest and disease management by providing detailed information on common agricultural threats like Bacterial Stalk Rot and Fall Armyworm. Each entry includes symptoms and recommended remedies, helping farmers to swiftly address and mitigate these issues.

      Weather Forecasting

Recognizing the importance of weather in agricultural planning, the app offers a five-day weather forecast feature, allowing farmers to make timely decisions to protect their investments, such as safeguarding against the wash-away of freshly applied fertilizers.

For those interested in taking advantage of this innovative tool, the Seedco Agronomy app is available for download, offering a modern solution to traditional farming challenges and supporting the growth and sustainability of agriculture in Zimbabwe.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
