Grupa Azoty has introduced POLIFOSKA Multi S, a multi-component fertilizer with 23% sulfur content. The product will be manufactured at the company’s Police plant, adding to its portfolio, which includes megAN (ammonium nitrate with large granules), RSM OPTIMA (a urea-ammonium nitrate solution with a distinct blue color for identification), and eNpluS (nitrogen with sulfur and calcium).

      Nutrient composition and solubility

POLIFOSKA Multi S contains 7% nitrogen (in ammonium form), 10% phosphorus, 20% potassium, 5% calcium, 1% magnesium, and 23% sulfate sulfur, along with silicon. The fertilizer’s water solubility allows nutrients to reach plant roots efficiently, supporting early-stage development.

According to Hubert Kamola, Vice President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty SA, the company has focused on developing a multi-component fertilizer with high solubility and balanced nutrient content. The formulation is intended to enhance plant growth and optimize nutrient use.

      Nutrient roles and soil compatibility

The ammonium nitrogen in POLIFOSKA Multi S is designed for efficient plant absorption while minimizing nitrogen loss through leaching. The phosphorus content, provided as ammonium phosphate, remains accessible even in dry conditions. In Poland, over 41% of soils have high phosphorus levels, making phosphorus management a key consideration. The 1:2 phosphorus-to-potassium ratio aims to prevent excessive phosphorus accumulation in phosphorus-rich soils while ensuring adequate potassium availability.

Potassium supports plant water and nitrogen regulation, increases resistance to diseases and frost, and reduces lodging risk. Calcium contributes to nutrient uptake, particularly of low-mobility elements like potassium and phosphorus. Magnesium enhances nutrient movement within the soil, while sulfate sulfur aids nitrogen metabolism and protein synthesis. Silicon is included to support phosphorus uptake in extreme soil pH conditions and improve plant tolerance to temperature variations.

      Application and recommended usage

POLIFOSKA Multi S is produced in a uniform granule form for even distribution and application. It is primarily recommended for pre-sowing use but can also be applied as an early spring top dressing for winter crops. For optimal results, it should be incorporated into the soil 7–14 days before sowing at a depth of 10–20 cm.

The fertilizer is intended for various crops, including winter and spring cereals, winter rapeseed, corn, legumes, root crops, and grasslands. It is particularly suited for soils with high phosphorus content, aiming to support nutrient balance and crop productivity.

With its balanced composition and targeted nutrient delivery, POLIFOSKA Multi S offers farmers an additional tool for improving soil health and optimizing crop yields, reinforcing Grupa Azoty’s commitment to providing effective agricultural solutions.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
