Greenway Farms adopts Sollum Technologies’ dynamic LED lighting for lettuce production

Greenway Farms, a Maryland-based aquaponic grower, has partnered with Canadian firm Sollum Technologies to implement dynamic LED lighting across its greenhouse operations, aiming to improve lettuce production through customized lighting control.
The farm, which produces leafy greens and fish year-round without genetically modified organisms or synthetic chemicals, will deploy Sollum’s SF-ONE LED fixtures. The lighting system is managed via Sollum’s SUN as a Service cloud platform, which enables growers to fine-tune light intensity and spectrum by zone and crop stage.

“We chose Sollum for its unmatched flexibility,” said Elshan Bal, a partner at Greenway Farms. “The ability to adjust lighting precisely by zone gives us more control over crop quality, uniformity and production timing.”
The use of custom light “recipes” allows Greenway Farms to adapt lighting for different growth stages and lettuce varieties, with the goal of enhancing both consistency and efficiency in production.
“Sollum’s solution is designed for forward-thinking growers like Greenway Farms,” said Matthew Bonavita, Sollum’s Vice President of Sales for the U.S. market. “This collaboration demonstrates how dynamic lighting can deliver measurable results—from energy savings to improved crop performance.”
The agreement underscores Sollum’s continued expansion in the leafy greens sector, where greenhouse operators are increasingly investing in adaptive technologies to meet quality and sustainability goals.
Sollum Technologies, founded in 2015 and based in Montréal, designs LED lighting systems that replicate the full natural light spectrum and are used in controlled-environment agriculture, including research facilities and commercial greenhouses.
