Eurochem secures EcoVadis certification for Brazil operations

EuroChem’s fertilizer and mining complex in Serra do Salitre, Minas Gerais, Brazil, has received the “Committed” certification from EcoVadis, an international platform that evaluates companies against sustainability criteria, including environmental performance, labor practices, ethics, and procurement.
The certification process began in January and was carried out by independent experts. According to EuroChem, the recognition strengthens its position in international supply chains and underscores its adherence to ESG principles.
“The EcoVadis certification plays a key role in EuroChem’s operations. It demonstrates our compliance with international ESG principles, strengthens our reputation, enhances stakeholder relationships, and establishes us as a trusted partner in the supply chain,” said Juliano Ferreira, Environmental and Licensing Manager at EuroChem Brazil.
The accreditation, valid for 12 months, is expected to help the company improve sustainability practices, differentiate its products in the market and reduce operational risks. EuroChem has also submitted 50 further initiatives to EcoVadis for future assessment.
The Serra do Salitre facility has been recognized by the Brazilian Institute of Mining (IBRAM) for its circular economy measures and included in the institute’s “Blue Book.” The site recycles 35 billion liters of water annually through a closed-loop system, generates 40% of its energy from heat recovery in sulfuric acid production, and has adopted a “zero landfill” policy since August 2024.
EuroChem invests around R$10 million (US$1.8 million) each year in social and environmental projects, including environmental education programs in 14 local schools. In July, more than 300 students participated in activities held during Environment Week.
