Grain yield in Russia may surpass 122 mln. tons in 2020

In 2020 grain harvest in Russia may amount to 122.5 million tons, stated Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture of Russia.

Agricultural production ramp-up and export development are important areas of activity of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. According to the Minister’s statement, it is impossible to achieve goals without systematic work to increase productivity. In 2019 the yield of cereal crops became almost 1.5 centers per hectare higher than in 2018. Now farmers use modern production technologies, therefore the Ministry expects to maintain yield results this year as well.

“Despite the difficulties caused by weather conditions in some regions of Russia and the spread of COVID-19, fieldwork as a whole is going as planned. Some regions have already begun the harvesting. According to the forecasts, gross grain production in 2020 may reach 122.5 million tons, including wheat production up to 75 million tons. Based on these predictions, we expect grain export in the 2020-2021 season to be 45 million tons,” said Dmitry Patrushev.
