The PhosAgro-Region company (part of PhosAgro) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan signed a cooperation agreement.

The agreement is aimed at increasing the level of supply of mineral fertilizers to farmers of Tatarstan through the development of a specialized logistics infrastructure in the region. Particularly, it provides for the launching of a second center for the distribution of mineral fertilizers in Tatarstan. The new distribution center is planned to be located in the southwest of Tatarstan and will allow farmers to optimize the costs of fieldwork by organizing the advanced purchasing of mineral fertilizers with their subsequent storage near farmland. The total capacity of PhosAgro-Region’s two warehouses in Tatarstan will exceed 30 thousand tons of granular and liquid fertilizers.

To implement this project, PhosAgro-Region has planned investments for 2021-2024 of more than 130 million rubles (approximately $1.78 million). As of today, it’s the most expensive investment project in the Volga region.

“After launching the first logistics complex of PhosAgro-Region in Tatarstan in 2018, local farmers increased their purchase of complex granular mineral fertilizers of PhosAgro by more than one and a half times. The launch of the second distribution center will expand the capabilities of agricultural producers due to the presence of the infrastructure for storage and shipment of PhosAgro liquid complex fertilizer near the fields. The liquid fertilizer has proven its efficiency in drought conditions in the Black Earth region, in the South of Russia, and Siberia. We are confident that its large-scale application in Tatarstan will increase the stability of the region’s agro-industrial complex to changing agrometeorological conditions,” said Andrey Vovk, General Director of PhosAgro-Region.

Along with the distribution center in the Nurlatsky region of Tatarstan, the new complex will become part of PhosAgro-Volga, which has been operating in Tatarstan since 2014. The company increases the supply of mineral fertilizers to agricultural producers of Tatarstan by an average of 15% annually. During the five months of 2021, PhosAgro-Volga supplied over 60 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers to its consumers in the region.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
