Russia increases the area of greenhouse complexes

During the Agroholdings of Russia conference organized by the Agroinvestor journal, Mikhail Glushkov, Executive Director of the National Fruit and Vegetable Union, reported that at the end of 2021, the total area of greenhouse complexes in Russia would amount to 3.075 thousand hectares.

As follows from his speech, in 2019, the area of greenhouses amounted to 2.573 thousand hectares, and in 2020 — 2.845 thousand hectares. The harvest of vegetables reached 1.332 and 1.487 million tons, respectively.

However, the profitability of the greenhouse business is declining gradually. In 2019, it was estimated at 16%, in 2020 it dropped to 7%. This year it will be at about the previous level, although the wages of employees have increased by 24%, pesticides have raised in price by 30%, and mineral fertilizers by 52%.
